Comment from tag records, London:
Another in the DJ Kicks series, and this is an absolute gem. The two maestro's of chillism take time off from their own usually superb releases to show off their DJ skills and impeccable musical taste on this musical lesson. A great compilation featuring jazz-tinged mellowism and even crossing into jungle territory

NME sound cellar says:
LET'S FACE it, Vienna's always going to be better known for cakes and coffee than techno and trip-hop. The Austrian capital just doesn't have the technotropolis ring of Detroit or Berlin, does it? But, believe it or not, Vienna's rapidly becoming the capital of all things inventive and adventurous when it comes to warblings of an electronic nature.

Why? Because as their brothers across the border in Germany have disappeared further and further up their conceptual trance arses, the likes of Kruder & Dorfmeister, along with Patrick Pulsinger, Cheap, Morbid, Mego, Autorepeat and hip-hop jock DSL, have been foisting increasingly witty and inventive music on an unsuspecting techno public. The duo's productions may have wormed their way into our hearts through countless I Can't Believe It's Not Trip-Hop' compilations and remixes it was their exotic refondle of Alex Reece's 'Feel The Sunshine' that finally gave it a leg-up into the Top 40 but across Europe they're still best known as DJs and it's their vinyl dexterity that comes under the microscope here. Using this, the latest instalment in K7's series of 'DJ Kicks' mix CDs, as a record of the carefully-crafted set they've been touting for the past six months or so, the pair take us from the gentle trip-hop climes of Ninja faves Herbaliser through smoothed-down drum'n'bass and ending up on their own doorstep with the glorious Day-Glo euphoria of Pulsinger and co's 'Showroom Recordings' and their own title-track contribution.

It's impeccably polished as you'd expect after six months' practice but somehow, hasn't quite got the spark of aural ambush and reckless eclecticism that made Coldcut's 'Journeys By DJ' so wondrous. A bit more bollocks and (just) a little less 'taste' next time should do the trick. Even so, Kruder & Dorfmeister kick. But gently. 7/10
